Boys in Years 7 and 8 have been learning about the significance of Remembrance Day over the last two weeks. The picture books One Minute's Silence and And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda provided the stimulus for thoughtful discussions.

Our second annual Year 8 Poetry Slam was an outstanding success, with the quality of poems far exceeding our expectations!

On Friday we will be hosting a TEDx event for Year 12 students from BGS and BGGS. We are very excited about our speaker line-up, which includes three speakers and three performers from BGS, and two speakers and five performers from BGGS, as well as seven amazing external speakers.
Our boys were keen shoppers at the recent Book Fair held in the Middle School Library. The fair was organised by Dymocks Brisbane who did a great job in keeping up with demand as titles sold out. Among the most popular titles was the new Jack Heath book 400 Minutes of Danger, the sequel to very popular 300 Minutes of Danger which Jack promoted when he was visiting BGS in Book Week.

Both the Years 5 & 6 and Years 7 & 8 Book Clubs were luck enough to have the opportunity to Skype with fantasy author Henry Neff during morning tea last week. See our blog for more information.
On the weekend Ms Barker presented a workshop in The eXchange to teacher librarians on effective marketing techniques.

To celebrate our unique Australian heritage and lifestyle, we've borrowed an idea from The Courier Mail and created a display using well-known or significant books about Australian identity. Make sure you call into the Senior Library to borrow one of these iconic books.

Author Christine Bongers is currently working with small groups of boys in Years 5-8 to help them develop their writing skills. The program will continue into next term. It is great to have Christine back working with us again.

What's a Frankentoy?
Two parts broken toy, one part super glue, and five parts wackiness. That's the recipe for creating a Frankentoy. Find some broken toys and bring them back to life by splicing them together to form something crazy. The freakier the better!!
