Follow the steps below for assignments and in-class tasks.
Introduction to Movie Studio
Easy to follow 8-part tutorial created by Mr Russell.
PART 1 - Organising your folders
Create a project folder and a folder inside that for any assets (images, video etc). Make sure that you never lose your assets!
Technically, you can set your folders up any way you like, but you must never lose/move your assets as your Movie Studio Project will cease to work correctly and you may not be able to render out your finished video.
Choose your settings.
For a class assignment, use the settings in the image (below) unless told otherwise.
"Internet Video" and "Internet (Widescreen) 24p".
(Remember to tell it where to save and by what name - you will need to click "Browse").
PART 3 - Importing files into Movie Studio
You will need to import your assets that are to be used in the project. Click PROJECT then IMPORT MEDIA and simply navigate to the files you wish to import.
They will appear in the space above the timeline.
PART 4 - Moving, cutting and deleting timeline footage
To make a cut in the footage on the timeline simply move the play point to where you want to make the cut.
Then using the right click feature to choose either trim start, trim end, cut or split. Each serves its own purpose, the videos (right) will demonstrate these as well as how to move the play point.
PART 5 - Effects transitions and text!
The video to the right will demonstrate how to add some effects and transitions.
The next two videos specifically help you with text.
PART 6 - I want to move and size my video... and possibly have two or more on screen at once!
(ADVANCED LEVEL OF DIFFICULTY)
Moving and changing the size of your video is simple enough but you will need to remember that any new footage brought into that layer may be affected as well!
PART 7 - Chroma Keying (Blue/Green Screen editing)
This video will show you how to adjust/edit a chroma key in movie studio.
PART 8 - Rendering a completed video
Click PROJECT then click RENDER AS
Choose the FOLDER that you want the video to be made in by clicking the BROWSE button.
Choose the FOLDER that you want the video to be made in by clicking the BROWSE button.
Type in the NAME you want your video to have.
Choose the setting for the video. For a class assignment use the ones in the image (right) unless told otherwise.
Ensure that RENDER LOOP REGION ONLY is NOT ticked.
If you have it selected only a segment of video will be rendered according to the selections in your project. To ensure the entire video renders simply do not have it ticked.
Once you are certain you have told it where to save and what name, as well as giving it the correct setting and have not got the box ticked, then simply click RENDER.
If you are having any worries rendering it is recommended that you watch the clip below.
